How it works

A rank and rent investment, explained plainly

You fund and own local lead generation sites. We build and manage them. A local business may lease the leads for a flat monthly fee, and it may not.

What is a rank and rent investment?

Rank and rent means building a local website, working to get it into Google results for searches such as roof repair or water damage cleanup in one city, and then renting the phone calls and form leads to a local business. That business, the tenant, pays a flat monthly lease for the right to receive them. The site owner never does the roofing or the plumbing. The tenant does the work and pays for access to the customers.

A rank and rent investment is the same model with an outside owner. You pay for the research and the build, you own the domains and the sites, and a monthly lease from a tenant is the revenue the asset can earn. Nothing about it is certain, and the rest of this page explains why.

Who does what: the investor and the operator

The investor

  • Pays the one-time setup price and the flat monthly management fee for the chosen package.
  • Owns the domains, which are registered in the investor's own registrar account.
  • Owns the sites and the tracked phone numbers set up for them.
  • Gets a monthly report and read-only access to call analytics and Search Console.

The operator, which is us

  • Researches the niche and the city before anything is built.
  • Builds the site, adds local content and citations, and works on rankings.
  • Sets up call tracking and looks for a local business to lease the leads.
  • Manages the portfolio each month. See what the monthly fee covers.

One niche in one city is never built for two investors.

How does the money move?

Money goes out first. You pay the setup price for your package, then the monthly management fee, plus the normal renewal of domains in your own registrar account. Current prices are on the package pages.

Money comes in only when a site is leased. The tenant pays a flat monthly lease. Our asking range for a leased site is $750 to $2,500 per month, and that is an asking range, not what any site is expected or likely to earn. A site with no tenant earns nothing, and the monthly management fee still applies.

Net cash flow is the lease minus your costs. It can be positive, zero or negative, and it can change month to month. The calculator page shows worked examples with numbers you can change, including cases where a site is not leased.

This is a business asset, not a savings product. These are the risks we want you to see before you pay.

  • Slow ranking. A site can take months to rank. Some rank slowly, and some do not rank in a useful position at all.
  • No tenant. A site can sit unleased for a long time, or never be leased.
  • Tenants cancel. A tenant can end the lease, so a leased site can go back to earning nothing.
  • Google changes. Updates to Google results can move rankings up or down without warning.
  • Loss of the amount paid. The investor can lose some or all of the money paid.

This is not financial, legal or investment advice, and a portfolio of sites is not a security or a regulated investment. Speak to your own advisor before you commit money.

How to decide if it fits you

It tends to suit people who can afford to lose the amount paid, accept that local SEO is slow and want someone else to run the work. It does not suit anyone who needs a fixed return.

To see how tenants are found, read the tenant leasing system. To see how calls are measured, read about call tracking. When you have questions, chat on WhatsApp and tell us your budget, how many sites you want and any niches you prefer.

Questions about dfy rank and rent in United States

Do I really own the domains and the sites?

Yes. Domains are registered in your own registrar account, so you control them and can move them. The sites and the tracked phone numbers set up for them belong to you as well. We work on them as your manager, and you can move them if you ever stop using our service.

How long until a site ranks or gets a tenant?

We cannot give a reliable timeline. Ranking often takes months, and it depends on the city, the niche and how much competition there is. Finding a tenant depends on the same factors. Some sites rank and lease sooner than others, and some do neither. We report on progress each month so you can see where each site stands.

How hands-off is it for me?

Your time is low, not zero. You review a monthly report and answer questions when we need a decision. We do the research, build, ranking work and tenant outreach. It is a business you own with a manager, and slow months should be expected.

Is a rank and rent portfolio a regulated investment?

No. A portfolio of local websites and domains is a business asset. It is not a security, a fund or a regulated investment product, and it has no protection like a bank deposit. We are not giving financial, legal or tax advice, so please take advice from a qualified professional before you decide.
